Photograph Submission Requirements

This page provides the basic requirements and instructions for submitting photos for publication in the Living Waters web site.  These requirements are necessary to ensure a format that not only provides a consistent look for all submitted photos, but also reduces the amount of overhead in supporting the submitted photos.  Following these procedures will greatly ease the photo submission process.  These procedure may also change from time to time so check here before submitting to keep up with the latest requirements.

The following are the basics for submitting photos.  Please keep in mind these are only guidelines designed to cover most circumstances and from time to time, exceptions will arise.  Any exception will be at the discretion of the webmaster.

bulletPhotos should pertain to either church, family, or individual related activities.
bulletPhotos should be submitted using the JPEG format.  This format is a graphics file format (.jpg extension in Microsoft Windows), supported by many Web browsers, developed for compressing and storing photographic images. It is best used for photo-realistic graphics with many colors, such as scanned photos containing thousands or millions of colors.  JPEG graphics are useful because you can control the file compression by changing the graphic quality.  The lower you set the quality, the higher the file compression will be.  As a result, the file size is decreased.
bulletGraphics should be submitted using the GIF format.  This format is a graphics file format (.gif extension in Windows), used to display indexed-color graphics on the World Wide Web.  It supports up to 256 colors and uses lossless compression, meaning that no image data is lost when the file is compressed.  Useful aspects of GIF graphics is that you can select one color to be transparent and they can be animated.
bulletAny photo or graphic should be of size less than 64k.  A good rule of thumb is using graphics and photos of size 32k to minimize page loading time for connections made through modem dial-ups.  Factors that influence graphic size are compression rates, image size (length and width), etc.
bulletA text file (.txt extension in Windows) should accompany each image or group of images submitted that contains information about each image or group of images.  When providing multiple images, they should be listed in the desired display order.  The information required for each image is as follows:
bulletEvent Name (i.e., Annual Picnic)
bulletSub-Event (i.e., Balloon Toss)  This is applicable for multiple groups of images that are part of the same event.
bulletImage File Name (i.e., balloontoss.jpg)
bulletImage Title (i.e., Balloon Toss Finals)
bulletImage Description (i.e., The annual picnic balloon toss came down to the wire between the teams of Bart and Marge Simpson verses Lisa and Homer Simpson.)  Descriptions can be a word, sentence, or paragraph and should try to contain the names of those involved if applicable.
bulletImage Date (i.e., 07/04/2002)
bulletAll files should be sent (preferably in a .zip file but not required) to the Webmaster at webmaster@livingwaterschurch.com with "Photograph Submission" in the subject line.
