What Is Prayer?
Our relationship with God is the cornerstone of who we are as Christians. Connecting with God in a deliberate way can most readily be accomplished through prayer, simply having a conversation with God. That's really what prayer is all about - our personal conversation with God.

The more we are connected with God, the better we will be able to help others connect with God's abundant love!

For Christians who are newly focused on deliberate and intentional prayer, we often seek some prescribed formula for "doing prayer correctly". What are the rules, the right format, the best way to talk with God? It's always a good idea to start with examples from Jesus as we see in the Bible:

'But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."'

Matthew 6:6-13

He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.’
He said to them, ‘When you pray, say:

Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us.
And do not bring us to the time of trial.’

Luke 11:1-4

As we think about prayer, we need to remember that other requirements and rituals we have built into prayer are man-made constructs. However, every rule or guideline has been intended to help us:
             1.       develop a habit of prayer,
             2.       refine the tools that can help us focus our wandering minds and intentionally focus on God, and
             3.       listen for and hear God's message for us.
